If you are considering a pocket cruiser such as a Ranger Tugs R23, a Rosborough 246, an Albin or a Haber, you should also take time to consider this delightful, highly customized, very economical and more versatile pilothouse motorsailer. She was designed by the legendary naval architect William Garden and built by Halman Yachts in Ontario, Canada.
Cockleshell is a beautiful self-contained diesel cruising boat capable as both a shallow draft motorsailer or displacement power cruiser. She has been meticulously maintained and upgraded over the last 19 years by the present owners. Systems have been upgraded and the boat has been modified structurally to professional standards. In particular, a custom carbon fibre hardtop with two integrated 80 watt solar panels was installed over the cockpit in 2006.
Cockleshell has been transformed into a cruising boat capable of operating independently for 7 to 10 days. There is no need to chase ice, shore power, potable water, or a pump out. The present owners routinely cruise the 1000 Islands for 10 day periods then head to a convenient town to re-provision, tend the tanks, and visit a laundromat before heading out for a similar time.
Cockleshell is a 3 season boat. A full cockpit enclosure increases the living space and incorporates a removable teak cockpit table and closed cell foam cockpit cushions. The cockpit also converts to a protected sleeping platform for two. A Refleks diesel cabin heater with viewing window is installed in the pilothouse. The heater operates with no electricity. With a tiller in the cockpit and a hydraulic steering station in the pilothouse, choose your station to suit the weather. Steering from the pilothouse on a cold rainy day with the Refleks heater going is a joy.
Cockleshell is offered for sale as well-equipped and ready to cruise. Tools, spares, dishes, cutlery, cookware, and many other items are included. The dinghy and dinghy motor are available at an extra cost.
Cockleshell was surveyed in November 2017 and the surveyor commented that Cockleshell was one of the finest boats he has surveyed. The survey is available upon request to serious purchasers.
