The Chaparral 337 SSX is a big, bold bowrider, designed to meet the needs of both day and weekend boaters. It has a cabin”a full beam one at that”yet the profile sitting still or underway says hard top sport boat. Take your pick, she delivers on all accounts.

The stern features a large integrated swim platform and a transom seat that coverts to a sunpad at the touch of a switch.

A wide walkthrough leads into the specious cockpit designed for entertaining. L-shaped seating wraps around the transom and port side. The cushions lift on articulating hinges, providing clear access to the storage. Our test model had the optional wetbar complete with sink, pressure water, trash receptacle and pull-out cooler in place of seating.

The helm is trimmed out in French stitched vinyl, faux wood, stainless steel and aluminum, a theme that continues throughout the cockpit. A Garmin multifunction display is flanked by the Mercury VesselView 4 and Precision Pilot systems in the upper binnacle and system switches and a stereo remote fill the lower. A well placed console places the DTS controls and Axius Joystick in a natural feeling position.

The port lounger wraps around across the bow and is bordered by a single forward facing seat. Maximizing storage, the 337 incorporates under seat storage, an insulated draining bow locker and an in-deck locker.

Opening the port console door will surprise you. The cabin is attractive with wood finishes, bright lighting and light upholstery. A mini galley and LED TV are to port and to starboard is an L-shaped settee that converts to a berth. Forward to port is the head/shower compartment with an opening port and a power vent.

When it comes to power, Chaparral offers a full range from MerCruiser and Volvo. Out test boat came with a MerCruiser 6.2L complete with the optional Axius System. This package delivered the ease Joystick control around the docks, skyhook position holding and integrated autopilot, plus performance”a combination that’s tough to beat.
