The skies may have been threatening rain, but the sun announced its presence in more ways than one as we launched the Sun Tracker Party Barge 21 Signature.

This 21-foot, two-log pontoon is pretty standard in terms of layout and features. Stepping aboard either the door aft, forward or to port, you have your choice of seating at the bow or stern or the helm to starboard. There’s plenty of under seat storage, but there’s a couple of surprises as well “ namely a special cubby built for a cooler (but with so many more potential uses) and lockable armrest storage.

Recognizing pontoons are made to entertain, the Party Barge 21 keeps guests partying in comfort with a full-width non-skid swim platform, folding boarding ladder and drop-down changing room/privacy curtain at the transom. And when that sun pokes its head out while the crowd’s enjoying the water, the Bimini top will provide some welcome shade.

At the helm, the gauges are set high for great visibility in a faux woodgrain accented dash. A deluxe sport steering wheel and tinted windscreen keep the captain comfortable, although leg room was at a bit of a premium. The console also included a small items tray, drink holders and trash receptacle.

Overall, the fit and finish was very nice, with plush comfortable upholstery throughout. But all of this was not going to keep a buyer happy if the Sun Tracker didn’t shine on the water, so it was time to hit the lake.

The 60-hp Mercury outboard powered the Party Barge 21 to a top speed of 20.6 mph at 5700 rpm. The ride was smooth and steady through accelerations and at various cruising speeds, while turns were wide “ typical of a two-log pontoon. The lack of power steering made for hard work around the dock, but was not such a big deal out on the open water.

So if you’re looking not just to track the sun, but also fish, fun and relax in it, the Sun Tracker Party Barge 21 Signature may just be the ticket.
