By Matt SpencerIf you've been paying close attention to this magazine over the past couple of years, you have probably noticed a major influx of pontoons (or now you’re saying “come to think of it…”). Not only that, but what would be described as radical pontoons have become commonplace. Aqua Patio is the latest to throw its hat into the ring with the 2013 250 Express.

It’s a mass of aluminum and fibreglass that magically comes together to form a masterpiece of style and function. Locating the side walls on the inside of the gates allows Aqua Patio to create smooth and flowing lines that blend all the way up to the forward swept tower.

Inside, the boat’s layout flows traffic straight down the middle with mirroring lounges on either side at the front and rear. The aft lounges have matching refreshment tables with raised drink holders. Aqua Patio chose a carbon fibre style vinyl for its upholstery, which is not only durable but handles heat a lot better, saving those exposed thighs!

A pleasant surprise is the rear-facing rumble seats that appear out of compartments in the fenders at the stern. It’s such a simple design that expands your enjoyment of the boat that much more.

What’s no surprise is how this boat performs. With the 300-hp Yamaha V-6 on the back, you’re getting power for days that will get you into the mid 30s without blinking and into the 40s with ease. This boat also has Aqua Patio’s G Force III triple tube package, which provides stand-out handling. There’s lifting strakes on the inside of the logs, but not the outside. This allows the boat to roll a bit and lets the motor push it around, turning it into a sport boat that just looks like a pontoon.

Aqua Patio undoubtedly has a winner with the 250 Express, a pontoon that stands above the rest. Once you get past its radical design, you’ll see a stylish and functional boat that you’re going to want on your dock. But, hurry, these pontoons are going fast! (Pun intended.)
