By Matt SpencerThe popularity of the pontoon has been well documented in this magazine (and usually by yours truly). At the end of the day, the main reason for the recent thrust boils down to entertaining. These boats are built to entertain, and the Sylvan Mandalay 8525 Bar is at the pinnacle.

This boat makes complete use of its 25-foot, 8-inch length and 8-foot, 6-inch beam by offering separate and unique entertaining areas. In the bow, you have your usual facing lounges. But there is nothing usual about the plush, soft touch vinyl used on the Mandalay.

Moving past the raised helm stand, equipped with all the bells and whistles, you come to a pair of captain’s chairs on the port side. Between them is an ice chest with drink holders. Finally you get to the bar.
Towards the stern of the boat you have a full bar setup complete with twin bar stools, a sink and even a dinette set that raises out of the counter. You’ll definitely want the optional grill, which will truly complete this boat for entertaining.

But the 8525 Bar is more than just a floating apartment. It comes standard with Sylvan’s RPT pontoons so it’s also built to fly! The model I tested had the Yamaha Vmax SHO 225-hp outboard, which really gets this boat cooking. Zero to 20 was under four seconds!

To be honest you’re going to want some big horsepower on this boat because all these options and guests add up in weight, but it also adds to the overall impressiveness of the package.

With a top speed of 40 mph, you can easily tube and waterski when you’re done entertaining, but the real magic of this boat will be at the dock, with your friends and family on board and a couple of rib eyes on the grill. Because that’s what pontoons are really all about.
