By Amanda ComissionCommitted to quality, safety and the
environment, Campion boats of Kelowna, B.C., has built a
strong reputation over 36 years of building boats, offering
something for everyone in its diverse lineup. Part of
Campion’s performance series of boats, the Chase 530 is
available with both sterndrive and outboard power, but it was
the latter we were able to test at Yamaha’s Canadian dealer
meeting.
And it all starts where you can’t see it. Campion adds a layer of Kevlar built into the keel of their hulls, reducing the chance of it being holed should the boat hit something. The company’s award-winning Apex hull design offers safer handling, better performance and more efficient fuel economy.
From bow to stern, this bowrider shows an amazing attention to detail on the interior. The bow has roomfor a couple to have a front row seat for the ride, with a bow filler cushion available.
Behind the sleek wraparound windshield, the helmscreams “sporty” with its industrial-looking wheel andmoon-shaped gauge display. Across the way, two glove boxes provide storage space in the passenger console, where you’ll also find Clarion stereo controls.
From here, a U-shaped transombench takes advantage of every inch of space in the cockpit, stretching frombehind the captain’s seat right around to behind the co-captain’s seat. The upholstery has really nice detailing that adds to the sporty flair.
Several cup holders are raised fromthe floor and integrated into the bench base for easy access and there’s storage under the seats for gear. Two speakers for the sound system are integrated into the aft bench back. At the transom, there’s an integrated folding bow ladder to starboard of the engine for getting in and out of the water.
Out on the water, the Yamaha SHO provided plenty of pep, reaching 20mph in under five seconds and topping out at 50mph at 5500 rpmwith two on board.
Campion is obviously working to ensure the water we love is there to be enjoyed for years to come. With boats like the Chase 530 OB, the company is sure to be there to provide the ride.
