By Mike GridleyThe Tahoe Q7i is a strong performer in the value category, whether you choose the basic model, fish-and-ski version or Extreme package, like our tester.

The Extreme package adds hull graphics, silver- and black-accented helm consoles and wheel, storm side carpet, and silver upholstery accents. The package also has several wakeboard tower options and expanded stereo, speaker and sub-woofer choices not available on the other models.

Tahoe's Powerglide hull design features Hydrostep lifting strakes and 23 degrees of deadrise. The hull, moulded components, deck and liner are chemically and mechanically bonded for a solid structure that is not rattled in waves.

At the helm are two adjustable bucket seats. For maximum comfort, you may wish to add the passenger seat bolster and tilt steering options. The helm is an attractive, moulded unit with complete instrumentation including a compass. The passenger helm has a small draining locker, two cup holders and a rubber-lined recess for small items. It also houses your choice of optional stereo systems.

The bow section has seating that’s comfortable for two adults facing forward while underway with draining storage in the moulded bases.

The full-width transom seat, with storage in its moulded base, blends nicely into the aft sun pad. The seat base, back and sun pad all have removable cushions that open up a walk-through to the swim platform. More storage is available in the open gunwales and the ski/wakeboard locker .

The swim platform has a three-step stainless boarding ladder with two stainless hand holds for easily getting out of the water. There are also two wet lockers in the platform and four cup holders in the transom.

While the base Q7i does have a tow eye in the transom, the Extreme model has several wakeboard tower, board rack and speaker package options that serious tow sports enthusiasts will want to upgrade to.

Engine options for the Q7i are either a MerCruiser 4.3 MPI or the 5.0 MPI with Alpha, Bravo I or Bravo III drives. I'd opt for the 260-hp 5.0.
