Bowriders are the quintessential day or sport boat for a host of great reasons. Rinker’s 216 BR is no exception. At 21 feet, it is an ideal size for cruising with a gang, yet is still easily trailerable. On its own, the 216 is a solid family bowrider at a moderate price point. Going for Rinker’s optional R Package adds substantially to the price, but transforms the 216 into a decent tow sports boat. R Package options on the test boat include a folding tower with board racks, Bimini, watersports mirror, hull graphics and more.
At the stern, the extended swim platform is a real bonus. Fold the backrest up on the large sunpad and two can relax with a view aft. A section of the pad to starboard hinges up revealing a walkthrough with a large storage locker beneath. The entire pad lifts for access to the engine and systems.
The aft bench seat has storage plus a removable cooler. There’s more storage for wakeboards and gear in the seven-foot in-floor locker.
Twin sliding swiveling forward seats, with bolsters, give the passenger and driver good sightlines and protection behind the curved windshield. The driving position is comfortable, with a tilt wheel. With MerCruiser power, drive-by-wire DTS is standard.
On the passenger side, there is a stainless grabrail and a Sony Stereo in the lockable compartment. The R Package upgrades the stereo to a Satellite radio with amp, subwoofer, tower-mounted speakers and a transom remote.
In the bow, the 216 carries the 8-foot 6-inch beam well forward. A filler cushion turns the space into a great lounge.
A wide range of sterndrive power choices will let buyers dial in the performance they want. With 19 degrees of deadrise, reverse chines and an aft pad, the 216 test boat performs well with the MerCruiser 5.0 MPI. It accelerates to 30 mph in 8.3 seconds, tops out at 48.2 and handles well.
