Carver has been around for decades, but the new European-looking lines and plumb bow is still fairly new. Within that sleek appearance are some wonderful design features that you don’t see on many 37-foot sport yachts.

There’s a sunpad at the bow with decent walk around access thanks to the 13-foot beam. The main stateroom is at the bow and the main entertaining space is all on the same level. The galley, seating and exterior cockpit can be used as one.

The entrance to the salon is a three-pane, full-length sliding glass door system that locks into place when open for secure running.

The massive sunroof lets light pour in and the front section slides back with the push of a button at the helm. Especially nice is a screen that slides across hereto keep out the mosquitoes. It would be nice to have a windshield vent too since all those windows can create a bit of a greenhouse effect, even when running.

The storage on the C37 is truly impressive. At the stern, there’s a hatch accessible both from the swim platform and through the rear bench. The engine room itself has a ton of space and, midship in the salon, is a cavernous storage room that your kids may want to sleep in.

The guest stateroom on the starboard side is mostly mattress but there’s a large hanging locker in there. In the master, there are two good-sized lockers andthe bed is lower than most cruisers, making room along the ceiling line for deep cabinets.

The modified V-hull, lifting strakes and 14-degree deadrise add up to an incrediblysmooth run for an 18,000-lb boat. Granted we tested it on a smooth and sheltered river, but we were able to crack 40 miles per hour and playfully make S-turns as if it were a runabout.

I often lament that modern sport yachts are no longer built as weekend liveaboards but rather giant day boats. The C37 knocks both out of the park.
