BOAT REVIEW by STEVEN BULL

I used to think bass boats were outfitted with huge outboards to minimize travel time and maximize fishing time. After ripping this Lund up and down the Rideau River in eastern Ontario with the 250-hp Pro XS Merc I’ve found the real reason: fun!

Sure, there is blistering acceleration in a holeshot and the top speed that almost kisses 60 miles per hour, but the mid-range acceleration was where I found the true test of power. Cruising along at a peppy 35 miles per hour I could bury the hammer and still take off like a shot flying almost instantly to 50 miles per hour and not long after racing past 55.

The storage on his boat is incredible. Captain Shawn Banks will explain the fishing details but, yes, I did crawl inside one of the bow compartments to prove I could fit - all 6-foot-1 of me.

The flip-up jump seats that otherwise are part of the extended stern platform are remarkably comfortable for your buddies and the removable port console clears out an already wide-open boat.

If you can’t win the tournament, you’ll be smiling the whole way back to the dock when you rip around on this beast.

Lund has done it again with the new 2017 Lund Pro-V 2075 Bass XS. This boat was designed with big water bass and musky anglers in mind, providing a fast, stable platform to get to areas that others can’t. The Pro V hull is designed to handle both shallow and rough water with ease.

The Bass XS features pedestal seating and large casting decks for serious tournament anglers. With a removable passenger console and two hidden fold-up seats neatly tucked into the back casting deck, it truly is perfect for tournament fishing, guiding, and family fishing.

The storage on the Pro-V is vast. Four storage compartments on the front deck can hold anything you could possibly need on the water. The rod storage locker, located in the centre compartment, holds an amazing 15 rods, and provides tackle tray storage below. Most exciting is the lengths of rods that can fit in this space. There’s room for five 10-foot rods, five 9.5-foot rods and five 8-foot rods. Storage at the stern continues to impress with two more large compartments that offer plenty of space for extra gear.

The oversized bow and stern casting decks are a luxury, allowing multiple anglers ample room to enjoy a competitive or fun day on the water. As a guide, sharing the front deck with multiple anglers can get crowded, but the Pro-V Bass XS allows plenty of room to make long casts, execute effective hooksets, and re-rig without getting in anyone’s way.
