Tahoe’s 1950 is the new kid on the block for 2017 but it comes from an established pedigree of solid deck boat design. From bow to stern this is cleverly put together and I’m sure the people behind the pens and rulers are boaters themselves.

Under the portside bench seating at the stern is a roomy storage compartment with built-in tow-rope cleat to avoid tangles while maximizing space.

Dead-centre at the stern, under the bench seats and secured with a rubber clasp, is a flip-up seat base with a removable 34.1 L cooler secured in place by its own handles. When the cooler lid is open, there is a small lip on the seat base for it to rest against holding both it and the seat cushion up.

You have the option of adding the Fishing Package to the 1950, which includes fishfinder, trolling motor, fishing seats and livewell. As tested, we had the optional wakeboard tower that has a simple fold-down system.

Tahoe says itsPowerGlide hull with reverse chine and the Hydrostep strakesadds up to increased performance. From my time behind the wheel whipping the boat in and out of turns in central Florida, I’d say it lives up to the hype. Deck boats often have loose handling and slide through turnsrdquo;atrade-off for having such a wide hull to make all that roomrdquo;butthe 1950, with a 20-degree deadrise, really did bite into turns and felt responsive, carving some tight turns around the camera boat.

As with most deck boats, there’s fun to be had at bow and stern. At each of the 1950 there are swim platforms with telescoping ladders. In addition to the removable cooler at the stern there is a 41 L compartment at the bow that can work as a cooler. Midship there are stereo controls and a refreshment centre with sink.

Regardless of where you are on the Tahoe 1950, you’re going to have a good time!
