For 2017, Yamaha has discontinued the 192 sport boat and replaced it with an all-new line, the 195, which comes in two models: the SX195 and the AR195. The only real difference being the AR has the forward-swept wake tower.

What’s really new is the fact that the 195s have the most powerful, highest horsepower engines that have ever been put in a Yamaha sport boat. The 1.8L-supercharged powerhouses are also found in the soil-your-pants-fast GP1800, very high-performance WaveRunner.

The patented articulated keel design extends the keel line to the rudder and the downright solid hull design, combined with weight displacement, meant this 19-foot family bowrider, when pushed, felt absolutely as fun and nimble as a WaveRunner.

Because the lock-to-lock steering radius was less than a full turn of the wheel, you can keep one hand on the wheel and the other on the throttle and feel comfortable pushing it - a well thought-out design.

Inside is all the stuff you’d expect on a Yamaha sport boat - the soft, but firm seating, durable, yet attractive upholstery and the popular padded stern swim lounge. There’s, somehow, more than 1,500 litres (400 gallons) of storage space when you add up all the underseat compartments, glovebox, port-side console storage and in-floor ski locker.

When I sat in the comfy wraparound captain’s chair, the top edge of the windscreen, though sleek, aligned with my line of sight. Thanks to the solid and significant bolster, I was able to pop my head right above for great sightlines, while still being comfortably seated.

Acceleration of jet boats feels a little different because it takes a bit for the water to be sucked up and shot out, but when it does you’re off in a flash. With the super-sharp handling, this can be a fun rip-around big boy toy or a comfy family cruiser or tow boat. You can get all this in a 19-foot package that will fit in your garage.
