Admittedly, the Heyday WT-2 is unique looking ” funky, if you ask me. Even more important than the appearance, though, is the price tag. With a 12-person capacity and 1,800 lbs (816 kg) ballast, this is a legitimate wake sports boat, but unlike it’s flashier cousins that can top $200,000, this is genuinely affordable.

Along with the shape of the hull overall, there are plenty of unique design elements. For starters, the curved seats flanking the engine compartment are referred to as “hot tub style” seating. They are some of the most comfortable seats I’ve ridden on, especially to watch the action behind the boat.

The lack of a wraparound windshield lowers the cost, but also opens up the boat. The starboard helm console is surrounded by bench seating from the bow along the port side. It feels more like a deck boat than a traditional wakeboard boat in many ways.

Within that console, accessed from the front, is a deep storage compartment. With our safety bag and lifejackets inside, there was lots of space for towels and other gear.

There is no built-in touchscreen to control the ballast and all the fun stuff. Instead, Heyday has made an app and created a space for a tablet to be secured with clip so the boat can be controlled with that. Another cost saving measure, but also cheaper to replace than an integrated system should it get damaged.

The transom hull’s 117-degree angle is designed to be slightly inefficient at slow speeds, to make the water rush around and curl off in a controlled fashion, all to make as big a wake as possible without complicated (read: expensive) gadgets.

Heyday has found a way to get back to the basics of watersports: fun! There’s no reason you need to take a second mortgage on your house to have a surf boat, all you have to do is check out a Heyday.
