Legend has been building boats in Canada for over 30 years. Understanding the uniqueness of the Canadian market, they were early adopters of tall windshields and full stand-up tops as standard equipment on their fishing boats. These days, every Legend is welded instead of riveted with heavy duty gauge aluminum for added strength and durability.

New for 2018, the Enjoy Freedom 21 is a three-lounge pontoon with an uncluttered layout that maximizes interior space. The smaller console with sink and double-wide changing room under the stern sundeck keeps the layout open. The upholstery is bright and colourful and soft touch fabrics are used for black accents to prevent heating up in the sun. The removable table located in front of the rear L-shaped lounge has convenient built in drink holders.

Our test boat was equipped with the Premium Package that includes a reclining helm chair with arm rests, Bluetooth and USB connectivity for the stereo, very cool blue LED interior lights, an oversized aluminum boarding ladder and a removable, tinted windscreen. The DuraWeave vinyl flooring is also part of the premium package and is one of my favourite features. It’s easy to clean, quick to dry and provides some cushion under foot.

Our boat was powered by the optional Mercury 115 Pro XS CT, which is available when you upgrade to the Sport Performance package. The Pro XS is light and the beefier Command Thrust gear case has lower ratios to provide more leverage and lift for heavier boats ” perfect for pontoons. This allowed the Freedom to get on plane quickly, without any significant bow rise to obscure sight lines.

Handling was typical for a pontoon ” a little lazy, but quite flat and reassuring. Pointed nose cones with lifting spray fins help keep the ride dry and comfortable, and full length V-shaped keels keep the boat planted while helping to protect the tubes.

Considering this boat starts at $24,999 and was still under $40,000 with the 115 Pro XS CT, the value is quite exceptional.
