Quebec-based Princecraft has many big, fancy boats but their smaller options, like this Hudson DL WS, have all the pedigree of the high-end cousins at a truly impressive price point. The base price for the Hudson comes in under $32,000 including a trailer!

With the Hudson, you get everything you need for some serious fishing. No, it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of some six-figure tournament boats, but it does have plenty of amenities to help you get your fish on. Rod holders, an in-floor lockable rod organizer for up to seven rods and a 44-inch, 20-gallon (77 L) bow livewell are all standard features. Also standard is the PrinceTrak system. It runs the length of the boat and allows you to install accessories from rod holders to tool holders for complete customization.

As tested, we had the optional Minn Kota 70 PD V2 trolling motor with iPilot, the aft-flip seats, 160-watt Jensen Bluetooth stereo, and Humminbird PiranhaMAX 4 fishfinder.

Constructed from 5052-H36 marine grade aluminum alloy, the Hudson runs very well and thanks to the reverse chines it was a surprisingly dry ride. The twin plating from bow to mid-ship and at the chine makes this a rugged boat, though it’s hard to tell with the high gloss exterior. It’s slick looking for sure.

With two people, we got on plane in 3.8 seconds and hit a top speed of just over 40 miles per hour. Running the 90-hp Mercury around 3,000-3,500 RPM we cruised anywhere between 19- and 24- miles per hour, which is a good speed for this size boat.

We did some fishing and didn’t feel cramped with two people working rods while our cameraman walked amongst us. When we stowed everything away it was definitely comfortable enough to be used as a family runabout, especially with the bow cushions added.

This is definitely a boat that punches above its weight in terms of fishability.
