Princecraft understands that not all deck boat customers have the same priorities, so they decided to build three versions of their 19-foot Ventura. We took the compact Ventura 190 for a spin and I have to give credit to Princecraft for finding unique ways to maximize space.

Instead of having to climb over it, the starboard cushion on the full-beam sunpad flips up to access a walk-through to get to the water. It also doubles as a privacy enclosure. The port cushion flips up to access a large, two-tier storage compartment. The ski tow bar is a must and can be optioned on its own or as part of the entertainment package, which also includes the starboard swim platform.

The cockpit is laid out with an L-shaped lounge to port. The standard helm seat swivels and slides, but the flip-up bolster is optional and not something I’d live without. The chair can be turned to face the lounge so when the pedestal mount table is in place, there’s an intimate place for food and drinks.

The fibreglass helm console is beautifully designed with a raised pad for your feet and an armrest extension with stainless grab rail. The in-floor cooler and ski locker are both standard equipment. The bow area features two large lounges with storage and a small raised deck that could be used as a casting platform.

The main advantages a deck boat has over a pontoon are speed and handling. Powered by Mercury’s lightweight 115 Pro XS, we were on plane in three seconds with very little bow rise. Propped for a bigger load, I could feel the rev limiter kicking in around 40 mph so for more power, a 150 is optional.

The lightweight Ventura 190 was quite fun to drive. A 13-degree dead rise and reverse chines kept the ride comfortable and dry. At under 1,900 pounds this boat can be trailered by a small SUV or crossover and really expands your boating opportunities.
