Rinker’s 18QX BR is one sharp looking bowrider. New styling and optional graphics give it a distinctively modern look.

Standard equipment includes a Kicker Bluetooth stereo, six stainless cup holders, in-floor storage, a glove box and tilt steering. With seating for eight, you’ll need storage, and the 18QX has eight storage compartments to keep your gear and water toys out of sight.

The large aft sunpad is made up of three separate flip-up panels. The centre provides access to the engine bay and sits on two gas struts, while the outside two access storage without struts. The large swim platform is raised off the water slightly, but has a fairly deep four-step re-boarding ladder. The standard stainless ski eye is bolted to the back of the platform, keeping it low for tubing, but wake boarders will be looking for a higher mount.

The optional Captain’s Choice package adds colour matched consoles, digital depth gauge, fender clips, a bimini and storage covers. It also includes one of my favourite features, the “bamboo” snap-in flooring, which looks sharp, dries quickly and is much more comfortable than non-skid fibreglass.

Our test boat was well matched with the 200 hp version of Mercury’s latest 4.5L V6 sterndrive with Active Speed Control. Weighing under 2,500 pounds dry, this package is light and felt quite nimble. While she managed to get on plane in just under four seconds, it was the handling that made me smile. With the trim down, nose in and the wheel cranked, you’d better be hanging on because she likes to turn. This makes for a boat that is fun to drive and nimble enough to retrieve a downed skier quickly.

Ride quality was also very good considering the size and weight of this boat. Considering the QX18 is one inch short of 19 feet, it is very well equipped with a host of standard features and has a price tag under $35,000 as tested. This little Rinker represents incredible value.
