New for 2018, Sea Ray revealed the Fly 520 at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this past November and it got a lot of attention.

A three-stateroom layout, the master is mid-ship and full beam with large windows, a queen-size berth and a luxurious amount of room. In fact, it’s the most room Sea Ray has ever provided on a boat this size. The private ensuite head has a separate shower with teak flooring and acrylic door, while the basin-style sink sits under a large window on a solid-surface countertop.

The VIP stateroom at the bow is comfortable enough to be a master, so your guests will feel right at home thanks to the large windows. The third stateroom is on the starboard side featuring twin beds. Directly opposite, is the guest head with separate shower.

I’m a big fan of the design decision to slide the stairs to the flybridge forward for a few reasons. One, it saves real estate in the aft-cockpit. Where the stairs could be, there is seating all around. Even still, it doesn’t feel cramped inside because the open risers allow light to flood through.

That’s a theme throughout, actually. Windows are everywhere and anywhere. And open space us used to let light through, including under the countertop in the aft galley.

Up on the bridge, there is a full beam bench aft that wraps around the starboard side. There's a hinged table on the starboard side and a standard open-air hardtop, with the option for an extended, full-enclosed hardtop.

The centre seat in the aft cockpit has a convertible backrest so it can be forward facing or a water-view lounger. Down on the swim platform, automatically deploying stairs create what Sea Ray calls a "Stairway to the Sea." And, as on other models, there’s the option to add the transom Gourmet Space out here, with grill and storage drawer.

Thanks to the standard Zeus drives, joystick controls are on every Fly 520. As is a Raymarine Axiom 12.1-inch color multifunction display. You can add additional units, FLIR night vision camera and aft-facing bridge camera as well.

The Fly 520 is the largest in the Sport Yacht family before moving up to the L-Class line, and is sure to set the bar for other designers in the coming years.
